In these difficult times, more and more families approach us for help every week. This week, we supported a record number of 425 families with food parcels. We feel some pride at that. We feel proud that our communities trust and believe in our work, our volunteers, the spirit and principles of OCA and that they feel safe to reach out for our support.
However, we are also deeply worried about the rising number of families needing additional support. At the moment, we are especially concerned by the difficulties single mothers are experiencing. Over the last three weeks, more and more single mothers have approached us for support. Many can no longer afford to pay the membership fees of other services. Nobody should have to worry about being able to put food on the table. Not ever, and not even in this pandemic.
To all the people struggling to feed their families and themselves, you are not alone. Many other people find themselves in similar situations, and many community members work hard to provide extra support that would otherwise be lacking.
You haven’t done anything wrong. This isn’t your fault.
We will continue to stand by you.
