Ground level support for those affected negatively by Covid-19 necessitates a certain lever of trust and understanding that can only be attained by those who have proven time and time again that tehy are working on a community level – not for fame, finance or recognition.
Why? We live amongst many nuances in the community, particularly amongst new and emerging BAME communities. Being a community leader or champion requires you to understand and work with these nuances – skill which don’t magically appear when you work behind a desk and have not enganges in grassroots activities.
We’re going through a time where those in need of help will not turn to certain organisations or individuals due to an underlying sense of stigna and shame that prevents the from seeking support and asking for help at this time.
To combat this effectively, Oxford Community Action has teamed up with the real leaders and champions of the local community so that those who need help know they can turn to their community leaders discreetly and in confidence who will be supported with a strong network of like-minded individuals to remove the stigma and other barriers people face when accessing already existing provisions.
If you’d like to make a real difference to those disproportionately impacted BAME communities in Oxford and the surrounding areas, donate now – there are a lot of people counting on your support.
