Our annual Oxford Eid Extravaganza men’s football tournament was a huge success. 18 teams competed in a tightly-fought tournament that ultimately saw a very familiar champion. Bayer Neverloosen came out as the winners, beating Waisa FC 4-0 in front of a crowd that also included some of our sponsors. As a special prize, we invited both of the teams for free lunch to our new OCA Cafe (more on this soon!)
Those familiar with our charity tournaments know that this was only one of two results that mattered. We are delighted to announce that our tournament raised £2,000 (!!) for our Somalian partner project SheCan Academy. SheCan trains young orphan girls in various skills that help them gain employment, financial security and independence. £1,000 was raised collectively by the players. A generous sponsor doubled the amount. This sum will help dozens of girls get professional training!
We would like to think all the teams and referees for their participation in this year’s tournament – you rock!
A special thanks goes out to our guest of honour, Ariel Lanada, Deputy Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, and our county councillors Mohamed Fadlalla and Imade Edosomwan for their generous sponsorship of our tournament.
